When God called us overseas to serve in full-time ministry we knew that the sacrifice would be great, but we didn’t know how hard it would actually be! We left everything that was familiar to us and everyone that we loved to follow this call to the nations. As we struggled through this reality, we began ministering to refugees and immigrants from all across the world. In that time God began to redefine what we call “home”.
In Luke chapter 9, a man says to Jesus, “I will follow you wherever you go”. Jesus’ response to him is simple, yet profound. He says to the man, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the son of man has no place to rest his head”. Throughout the journey of our cross-cultural ministry we have come to be at peace with the fact that our home is actually found in His presence. We are foreigners and aliens on this earth, but being with God in heaven is our eternal home. When God’s presence is our home, we can be at peace no matter where in the world He may call us, and we can boldly follow him to the ends of the earth.
lyrics
If home is where the heart is,
my home is here with you.
My comfort in this world
I dare not hold onto
Home is not a cozy structure
built with human hands
I am just a stranger in
these foreign distant lands
but I'm at home in your presence
Yes, I'm at home in your presence
If home is where the heart is,
my home is here with you
My comfort in this world
I dare not hold onto
The only thing I ask of you,
the one thing I pursue,
is to dwell in the house of God
all my days
'cause I'm at home in your presence
Yes, I'm at home in your presence
Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,
But the son of man has no place to rest his head
Still I'll follow you with all that I have left
Until I fade and take my dying breath
You said, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,
But the son of man has no place to rest his head."
Still I'll follow you with all that I have left
Until I fade and take my dying breath
And I'm finally at home in your presence
Yes, I'm at home in your presence
I'm at Home
